How to ask Claude Code or Cursor about your analytics with MCP

Connect Claude Code or Cursor to Spreelytics in two minutes, ask about your traffic in plain English, and let it build the report for you.

If you already work in Claude Code or Cursor, you can ask it about your traffic without opening a dashboard. "How did signups do last week compared with the week before?" gets an answer with real numbers, and "put that on a dashboard" builds one.

The link between the two is MCP, the Model Context Protocol. It is a standard way for an AI app to call tools inside another product. Spreelytics runs an MCP server, so any AI app that speaks MCP can read your analytics through it.

1. Make an account key

In Spreelytics, open Account → API keys and create a key. Name it after the app that will use it, such as "Cursor on my laptop". With one key per app, revoking a key cuts off exactly one thing.

It has to be an account key. A key made in a project's settings only reaches that one project, and the MCP server refuses it.

Treat the key like a password. It can read every project in your account.

2. Add the server

Claude Code. Run this once in a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http spreelytics https://mcp.spreelytics.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

Cursor. Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "spreelytics": {
      "url": "https://mcp.spreelytics.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

VS Code and Windsurf work the same way. The exact config for each one is in the app under Settings → MCP.

3. Start with the project

Every question needs a project to run against. Start with "list my Spreelytics projects", or name the one you mean. The app calls projects audiences, so the AI may use that word too.

Then let it read your event catalog before it counts anything. Your event names are your own. An AI that guesses signup when you send signup_completed reports zero rather than an error.

Questions worth asking

  • "Compare visitors and revenue for the last 30 days with the 30 days before."
  • "Which landing pages bring in the most visitors from search?"
  • "Where do people drop out between pricing and signup?"
  • "Did anything unusual happen in our traffic this week?"
  • "Show me what this person did before they paid."

The answers come from the same live data the dashboard reads, with no sampling.

Ask it to build

The server can also create things. It can make goals and funnels. It can create, edit and delete dashboards, the reports on them and segments. It can also add references, the notes that mark a date on every chart.

Everything it makes is an ordinary object. You can open it in the app, change it or delete it.

What it cannot do

It cannot change or delete the events you collected. It cannot edit or delete a goal or a funnel once made, which you do in the app. It has no access to account settings, members or billing.

A key also acts as the person who made it. If you can only view a project, your key gets the read tools and nothing else.

Which plan

MCP is on every plan, Free included. The in-app AI assistant is a Growth feature, but connecting your own AI app costs nothing extra.
