Watch the visit behind the number.

When a report shows where people drop off but not why, watch their visits. Each recording plays with the visit’s page views, clicks and events listed beside it.

What it does

The recording and the analytics, side by side.

Replays come from the same visits as every report, so you find them the same way.

A player made for reading visits

The page’s address follows the playhead, and the visit’s activity is listed beside the recording. Click a row to jump to that moment.

  • Page views, events, clicks and typing on one list
  • Rage clicks marked in red
  • Skip inactivity, and 0.5× to 16× speed

The visits worth watching

The Replays page takes the dashboard’s date range and filters, so you can watch only the visits from one campaign, or of the people who completed a goal.

  • Filter by source, page, event, goal or segment
  • A minimum length, from 10 seconds to 5 minutes
  • Watch replay on sessions and profiles

Private by default

What visitors type is masked, and so are email addresses. Mask or leave out anything else with one attribute.

  • Form fields and email addresses masked
  • Only visitors tracked with cookies are recorded
  • Kept for 30 days, then deleted

How it works

Use it in three steps.

  1. 01

    Turn it on

An admin switches on Record sessions in the project’s Tracking script settings. The snippet on your site stays as it is.

  2. 02

    Visits are recorded

Every visit tracked with cookies is recorded, up to your plan’s monthly replays. The recorder loads only for those visits.

  3. 03

    Watch

Open Replays, or Watch replay on any recorded session, and play it with the visit’s activity beside it.

FAQ

Questions about this one.

What people ask before they switch it on.

Which plans include session replay?

Growth. Each size records one replay a month for every 10 events it includes: 25,000 on the 250k size and 100,000 on 1M. Free records none.

What happens when I run out of replays?

New visits stop being recorded until the period resets. Your analytics carry on as before, and nothing is charged on top. Replays never count toward your events.

Is it a video of the screen?

No. The recorder captures the page and each change to it, and the player rebuilds the page from that. The recorder is about 24 KB, and it loads only for visits that are recorded.

What is masked?

Everything visitors type into a form, and email addresses wherever they appear. Other page text shows, so a replay reads like your site.

Add data-spree-mask to an element to mask its text, or data-spree-block to leave it out of the recording. Card fields from Stripe and Braintree are never recorded.

Do I need consent to record visitors?

In the EU and UK, yes. Regulators there treat session replay as needing consent, with or without cookies.

Spreelytics records only visitors tracked with cookies. If your site keeps visitors cookieless until they agree, replay waits for that agreement too. A project in cookieless mode records nothing.
