Compare·Umami
The friendly self-host has grown.
Umami is the friendliest self-host in analytics, and it now has journeys, retention, cohorts, revenue and attribution. We differ on the room in our free plan, attribution across a whole path, AI that builds for you, and crawlers a page script cannot see.
What Umami is
A small open-source analytics tool, MIT licensed, easy to self-host, with a cloud that has a free tier.
- Licence
- Open source (MIT)
- Hosting
- Self-host or their cloud
- Best at
- Being up and running on your own box in an afternoon, with a permissive licence and almost no operational weight.
Where Umami wins.
If one of these is a must-have for you, go with them.
Very easy to self-host
One container and a database. If you want to own the data with the least possible operational cost, this is the lowest-friction option on this page. We do not self-host at all.
MIT licensed
The most permissive licence in this comparison. We are closed source.
Replay free on your own server
Umami records sessions, free when self-hosted and on the Business plan in their cloud. Ours needs the Growth plan and records only visitors tracked with our cookie.
Where Spreelytics wins.
Every line here is a page in the product today.
A free plan with room in it
100k events a month across unlimited projects and team members, with the API and MCP included. Their free cloud plan covers one website, keeps six months of data and leaves the API and MCP out.
Credit across the whole path
Their attribution gives a conversion to the first click or the last. Ours can also split it evenly across every visit in a lookback window you set, so the channels that assisted stop reading as zero.
AI that reads and builds
Ask in plain English and the assistant builds goals, funnels, reports and dashboards. Their MCP server is read-only; ours can build what your agent asks for.
Crawlers and anomalies
We track AI assistants, search engines and training crawlers server-side, while Umami drops bots unseen. Five detectors also flag unusual swings without you setting a threshold.
Side by side.
We leave prices out because Umami can change theirs at any time. Ours are on the pricing page.

Moving over.
Every one of these starts by leaving Umami running.
01
Keep the container running
It holds your history, so leave it up as the archive while new data collects here.
02
Add the snippet
One script tag, and the overview is populated on the next request.
03
Try what is different
Split revenue across a whole path with linear attribution, ask the assistant to build a board, or read the AI crawlers hitting your pages.
FAQ
Switching from Umami.
What people ask before they switch.
Umami is free if I host it. Why pay?
You may not need to. Our Free plan covers 100,000 events a month across unlimited projects. If Umami answers your questions and you are happy running it, keep it. The case for us is narrower than it used to be: linear attribution, an assistant and an MCP server that build as well as read, server-side crawler tracking, and nothing to operate.
Is there a self-hosted Spreelytics?
No. We are hosted only. Umami and Matomo are the answers if you want to run it yourself.
Is your script as light as theirs?
No. Theirs is smaller, and if every kilobyte in your page head is contested, that matters.
