Compare·OpenPanel
Close to us, but it resets visitors every day.
OpenPanel is an open-source alternative to Mixpanel, with session replay, and you can host it yourself. But its visitor ID resets every day, and revenue is an event you send yourself, so returning visitors and money both take more work.
What OpenPanel is
An open-source web and product analytics platform, built as a Mixpanel alternative, with a cloud or self-hosting.
- Licence
- Open source (AGPL-3.0)
- Hosting
- EU cloud (Frankfurt) or self-host
- Best at
- Giving you Mixpanel-style product analytics and session replay in an open-source tool that stays cookieless.
Where OpenPanel wins.
If one of these is a must-have for you, go with them.
Open source and self-hostable
You can read the code and run it yourself, with no event limit on a self-hosted install. We are hosted only and closed source.
Replay with all text masked
OpenPanel records sessions, with all text and inputs masked by default. Our replay, on the Growth plan, masks typing and email addresses but shows other page text, and it records only visitors tracked with our cookie.
Apps as well as websites
It has SDKs for iOS and Android apps. Our tracking is built for the web.
Where Spreelytics wins.

Visitors who come back
OpenPanel’s device ID resets every day, by design. A visitor who never signs in becomes someone new each day, and their earlier days stay apart. By default we keep one identity per visitor with a first-party cookie that lasts a year. Our retention grids and person timelines then include people who never sign in.
Revenue without webhook code
In OpenPanel, revenue is an event you send, usually from your own payment webhook. We connect to Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy and set up the webhook for you. Then you choose last-touch or linear credit, over a window you set.
AI crawlers, counted
AI crawlers rarely run JavaScript, so a page script cannot see them. We count them on your server and sort them by what they do. OpenPanel has no report on bots or AI crawlers.
An MCP server that can build
Both of us run an official MCP server, the standard way AI apps connect to your data. OpenPanel’s reads only. Ours can also create goals and funnels when your role allows, as ordinary objects you can edit.
Side by side.
We leave prices out because OpenPanel can change theirs at any time. Ours are on the pricing page.

Moving over.
Every one of these starts by leaving OpenPanel running.
01
Keep OpenPanel running
It holds your history and your replays. Run it beside us while you compare the numbers.
02
Add our snippet next to theirs
Paste our script tag beside theirs. Pageviews and sessions start arriving on the next request.
03
Swap the webhook for a connection
Where your webhook calls op.revenue(), connect your payment provider here instead. Pass our visitor id at checkout, the way you passed their device ID.
04
Rebuild the reports you open
Their funnels and retention charts have direct equivalents here. Rebuild the few your team reads every week.
FAQ
Switching from OpenPanel.
What people ask before they switch.
OpenPanel is free to self-host. Why pay?
You may not need to. If you are happy running it, keep it. Our Free plan gives you 100k events a month, forever, and we run it for you.
The case for us is narrower. Revenue arrives from your payment provider on its own, and you choose how credit is split. Crawler traffic is the other gap.
Will our visitor counts match OpenPanel’s?
Not over a range longer than a day. OpenPanel gives each visitor a new device ID every day, so someone who visits on Monday and again on Thursday gets two different IDs. In our default mode, the same cookie recognises them both times, so the two tools can count that person differently.
Does Spreelytics have session replay?
Yes, on the Growth plan. Anything typed into a form and any email address is masked, and you can mask other text with data-spree-mask. A project in cookieless mode records no replays, so if you need replay without cookies, OpenPanel fits better.
