Compare·Contentsquare
A big suite, and now the home of Hotjar.
Contentsquare is one of the broadest experience platforms there is, and Hotjar and Heap are now part of it. Its attribution needs the Pro plan, and revenue reaches it from a tag on your confirmation page.
What Contentsquare is
An experience analytics platform for websites and apps, built on session replay and zone-based heatmaps, that now includes Hotjar and Heap.

Where Contentsquare wins.
If one of these is a must-have for you, go with them.
Zone heatmaps
Contentsquare replays sessions and measures how people use each zone of a page, meaning each block such as a banner or a button. Our replay needs the Growth plan, and we draw no heatmaps of any kind.
More attribution models
On the Pro plan it credits each conversion across your channels, AI sources included, with models such as time decay. Ours is last-touch or linear.
A/B tests next to the replays
Higher plans can build and run A/B tests without code, then explain the result with replays in the same place. We run no experiments of any kind.
Apps as well as websites
Contentsquare has SDKs for iOS and Android apps. Our tracking is built for the web.
Where Spreelytics wins.
Every line here is a page in the product today.
Never sampled
Contentsquare samples its reports once a project passes set volumes, and its journey analysis above 20,000 sessions. Every query here reads every row for the range you picked.
Revenue from the payment, on every plan
Contentsquare reads revenue from a tag on your confirmation page, and its attribution needs Pro. We take payments straight from Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy, with attribution on every plan, Free included.
Crawler visits, counted
Contentsquare’s Bot View shows a page the way AI bots read it. We count the crawler visits themselves on your server, and show which ones came for AI answers and which came for training.
An MCP server that builds
Contentsquare’s MCP server is read-only, with a set number of calls on each plan. Through ours, your agent can also build funnels and dashboards, within your role.
Side by side.
We leave prices out because Contentsquare can change theirs at any time. Ours are on the pricing page.

Moving over.
Every one of these starts by leaving Contentsquare running.
01
Keep Contentsquare for heatmaps
Zone heatmaps stay where they are. Our script sits next to their tag, and the two run side by side.
02
Add the snippet
One script tag. Visits start arriving on the next request, with nothing to configure first.
03
Rebuild the funnels you read
Pick the funnels your team checks each week and rebuild them from pages and events. Each one can have up to eight steps.
04
Connect your payments
Connect your payment provider instead of the e-commerce tag on your confirmation page. Each sale is then credited to the visits that led to it.
FAQ
Switching from Contentsquare.
What people ask before they switch.
Hotjar is now Contentsquare. Does this page apply to me?
Yes. Hotjar is now part of Contentsquare, and new users sign up there instead. This page compares us with Contentsquare, which is where Hotjar now lives.
The short version has not changed much. They draw heatmaps, and we do not. Both of us replay sessions, ours on the Growth plan. We count every visit without sampling, and we take revenue straight from your payment provider.
Does Spreelytics have session replay or heatmaps?
Session replay, yes, on the Growth plan. A recorded visit plays back with its page views, clicks and events listed beside it, and anything typed into a form is masked. Heatmaps, no, of any kind.
Many teams keep a heatmap tool to see where people click and scroll, and use us for the numbers and the replays. That is a sensible setup.
Both have a free plan. How do they differ?
Contentsquare’s free plan covers up to 200k sessions a month on one project. It keeps one month of data and replays a small share of sessions. Ours covers 100k events a month across unlimited projects, and keeps 13 months of history.
A session holds several events, so their free plan takes in more traffic. Ours keeps what it collects for much longer.
