Compare·Statcounter
Good on single visitors, but it stops there.
Statcounter has run since 1999, and it is good at showing each visitor as they browse. It has no funnels or retention, and it does not trace sales to the channels that earned them.
What Statcounter is
One of the oldest web analytics services, built around a live feed of individual visitors, with session replay and heatmaps on paid plans.
- Licence
- Proprietary
- Hosting
- Their cloud only
- Best at
- Showing each visitor as they browse, with the path they took and, on paid plans, a recording of the session.
Where Statcounter wins.
If one of these is a must-have for you, go with them.
Click heatmaps
On paid plans, Statcounter records sessions you can play back. Premium Plus adds heatmaps of where people click. Our replay comes with the Growth plan, but we draw no heatmaps of any kind.
Checks on paid ad clicks
Statcounter flags IP addresses that click your ads again and again. You can export them to claim a refund from the ad network. Its Google Ads link shows the keyword and campaign behind each visit. We have nothing like this.
Plugins for WordPress and Shopify
Statcounter has its own WordPress plugin and Shopify app. We have no WordPress plugin. On WordPress you paste our snippet into your theme header, or use any plugin that adds header scripts.
Where Spreelytics wins.
Every line here is a page in the product today.
Journeys and funnels, not one path at a time
Statcounter shows the path each visitor took, one visitor at a time. We draw the top paths as one flow, and you can walk back from any page to see how people reached it. Funnels of up to eight steps show where they drop off.
Revenue traced to channels
Statcounter measures how many landing page visitors reach a goal. We connect to Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy and trace each sale to the channel that earned it. You choose last-touch or linear attribution, over a window you set.
History and campaigns on the free plan
Statcounter’s free plan keeps detailed data for 14 days. Its UTM campaign tracking needs Premium Plus. Our Free plan keeps 13 months of history, and all five UTM fields are on every plan.
MCP on every plan
Statcounter’s MCP server only reads, and only for projects on paid plans. Ours is on every plan, Free included. Your agent can build reports and dashboards as well as read them, within your role.
Side by side.
We leave prices out because Statcounter can change theirs at any time. Ours are on the pricing page.

Moving over.
Every one of these starts by leaving Statcounter running.
01
Leave Statcounter running
Keep its code on your pages while ours collects. If you rely on its heatmaps or its ad click checks, you may keep it for those.
02
Add the snippet
One script tag in your page head. On WordPress, paste it into your theme header or add it with any plugin that adds header scripts.
03
Turn conversions into goals
A Statcounter goal becomes a page or event goal here. Put your goals in order and the funnel shows where people drop off.
04
Connect your payments
Connect your payment provider and pass the visitor id at checkout. Each sale then shows up next to the channel that brought the buyer.
FAQ
Switching from Statcounter.
What people ask before they switch.
Can I still see each visitor, like in Statcounter?
Yes. Profiles & sessions lists every visit, with its pages and source. Each person also has one timeline across all their visits.
Identifying someone adds their name to that timeline. On a project switched to cookieless mode, an anonymous visitor counts as new each day.
Does Spreelytics have session replay or heatmaps?
Session replay, yes, on our Growth plan, with anything typed into a form and any email address masked. Heatmaps, no. If you use Statcounter’s heatmaps every week, keep it for those.
How much history does the Free plan keep?
13 months, so you can compare a month with the same month a year before. Growth keeps five years. The Free plan takes 100k events a month and never expires.
