Mixpanel vs Amplitude: free plans, prices and which to pick

Mixpanel and Amplitude compared on free plans, what 10M events cost, attribution, replay, flags and AI. Prices checked on 1 October 2026.

Mixpanel and Amplitude started as the same kind of tool: event analytics for what people do inside a product. They have grown closer since. Both now have session replay, feature flags, experiments, AI agents and an official MCP server. What still separates them is the shape of the free plan, the price once you outgrow it, and how deep each one goes on attribution.

We make Spreelytics, which is neither of these, so we have no stake in which one you pick. Features were checked against each vendor's docs on 24 September 2026, and prices against their pricing pages on 1 October 2026. Both change often, so confirm them before you decide.

The short answer

Amplitude gives more away and costs less at 10 million events a month, and its attribution goes further. Mixpanel is the one to pick if you need your data held in India, or if you would rather your free report limit grew with the size of your team. Under a million events, both are free.

Free plans

Mixpanel gives you 1 million events a month, unlimited seats and 10,000 session replays. Feature flags and A/B tests are on the free plan too. The limits are on what you keep: five saved reports per seat, and no saved cohorts. Go past a million events and your reports are blocked until you upgrade or the next month starts.

Amplitude gives you 2 million events a month, unlimited seats and a year of data. Replay covers 10,000 sessions a month, and you get unlimited feature flags, one live experiment, a limited set of in-app guides and surveys, and its AI agents. You can keep ten saved charts across the whole account, and behavioural cohorts need a paid plan. Amplitude's billing FAQ says an account that goes over its limit three times is blocked from viewing its data until it upgrades.

On volume and features, Amplitude's free plan is the bigger one. Saved reports are the exception: Mixpanel's five are per seat, so once three or more people save reports it allows more than Amplitude's ten.

What they cost as you grow

Both price by events, and both keep their free allowance when you start paying. These are the figures each vendor's own calculator showed on 1 October 2026.

Events a monthMixpanel GrowthAmplitude Plus
1.5M, billed monthly$140$0
10M, billed monthly$1,176$720
10M, billed yearly, per month$840$576

Between 1 and 2 million events, Amplitude is still free and Mixpanel is not. At 10 million, Amplitude costs about 40% less on a monthly bill.

Paying yearly saves 20% on Amplitude at every size. On Mixpanel the saving grows with volume, from about 14% at 1.5 million to about 29% at 10 million.

Going over the volume you bought costs more on Mixpanel. Its extra events are billed at the pay-as-you-go rate, about twice what you would have paid by buying the volume up front at 10 million. Amplitude bills extra events at your plan's own rate, with no markup.

The self-serve ceiling differs too. You can buy Mixpanel Growth yourself up to 20 million events a month and Amplitude Plus up to 70 million. Past that, and for single sign-on on either, you talk to sales: Mixpanel puts it on Enterprise, Amplitude on Growth.

Where they differ

Attribution. Amplitude has ten models, including a data-driven one, and shows ad spend beside the revenue, so cost per customer and return on ad spend sit in one report. Mixpanel has nine, including time-decay and custom models, on its paid plans.

AI. Both have an in-app agent you can ask questions. Amplitude also runs scheduled agents that watch dashboards, replays and conversion and post what they find to Slack or email. Mixpanel's agent, which replaced Spark in June 2026, is on its free plan.

What else is bundled. Amplitude also sells in-app guides and surveys, with a limited set on the free plan, and adds heatmaps from Plus up.

Where your data lives. Mixpanel offers US, EU or India data residency. Amplitude offers US or EU.

Where they are the same

  • Session replay, feature flags and experiments, in some form, on the free plan.
  • An official MCP server that can read and build, on every plan.
  • No sampling unless you switch it on.
  • First-party cookies that you can turn off.
  • Closed source, with open-source SDKs, hosted in the vendor's cloud only.
  • Neither reports on AI crawlers. Both filter bots out and report on none of them.

Which to pick

  • Under 1 million events a month: both are free, and neither saves cohorts on the free plan. The limit that usually decides it is saved reports: five per seat on Mixpanel, ten for the whole account on Amplitude.
  • Between 1 and 2 million: Amplitude is still free, and Mixpanel costs $140 a month at 1.5 million.
  • Around 10 million: Amplitude's list price is lower, monthly or yearly.
  • Paid acquisition at the centre: Amplitude, for its data-driven model and ad spend beside revenue.
  • Data that must stay in India: Mixpanel.
  • Flags and experiments on a free plan: both have them now. Mixpanel's sit on every plan, and Amplitude's free plan runs one live experiment at a time.

When neither is the right tool

Both are product analytics tools first. If your main question is which channel brings in the people who pay, they are heavy for it, and neither counts AI crawlers, which almost never run the JavaScript a page script depends on.

That is the question Spreelytics is built for. Web and product analytics run on one stream of events, and payments from Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy are credited to the channel that earned them, by last-touch or linear attribution, on every plan including Free. We count AI crawlers server-side, and our MCP server works in Claude Code and Cursor.

We have no feature flags or experiments, and our session replay comes with the Growth plan rather than the free one. If flags, experiments or free replays matter to you, Mixpanel or Amplitude is the better fit. Our free plan is 100,000 events a month. At 10 million events we cost $339 a month, billed monthly.

Questions people ask

Is Amplitude cheaper than Mixpanel?

At the volumes we priced, yes. Amplitude is free up to 2 million events, where Mixpanel charges past 1 million, and at 10 million events Amplitude Plus is $720 a month against $1,176 for Mixpanel Growth, billed monthly.

Which has the bigger free plan?

Do Mixpanel and Amplitude both have session replay?

Yes. Each includes 10,000 replays a month on its free plan.

Do they have an MCP server?

Both have an official MCP server that can read and build reports, on every plan, so AI agents such as Claude can work with either one.
