Compare·Hotjar
Hotjar is moving to Contentsquare.
As of October 2026, Hotjar no longer takes new accounts, and existing accounts are moving to Contentsquare in phases. Contentsquare is the natural move for heatmaps and replays, and we are an option if you mostly used Hotjar for traffic and conversion, with replays on our Growth plan.
What Hotjar is
A heatmap and session recording tool with surveys. It no longer takes new accounts, and existing ones are moving to Contentsquare.

Where Hotjar wins.
If one of these is a must-have for you, go with them.
Heatmaps, and we have none
Hotjar shows where people click and scroll, and it lets you watch their sessions. Contentsquare keeps both. Our replay comes with the Growth plan, but we draw no heatmaps of any kind.
Surveys and feedback
Hotjar asks visitors questions on the page and collects their feedback. Your survey data moves to Contentsquare with the account. We have no surveys.
A move that is already set up
Your Contentsquare account is created for you, and your Hotjar code starts sending data to it. Moving to us means adding a new snippet and setting up your goals again.
Where Spreelytics wins.
Every line here is a page in the product today.
Revenue by channel
Connect Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy, and each sale is credited to the channel that earned it. You choose last-touch or linear. Hotjar’s funnels show conversion and drop-off, with no revenue attached.
Funnels that follow the person
A Hotjar funnel counts sessions. Ours follow the person across visits, and retention for a segment sits beside them.
Every visit counted
Hotjar samples your traffic once you pass the daily session limit of your plan. We never sample. Every query reads every row for the range you picked.
Crawlers a script cannot see
AI crawlers almost never run JavaScript, so a page script like Hotjar’s cannot see them. We count them on your server and keep them apart from your visitors.
Side by side.
We leave prices out because Hotjar can change theirs at any time. Ours are on the pricing page.

Moving over.
Every one of these starts by leaving Hotjar running.
01
Keep the Hotjar code in place
Contentsquare reads data through the same code, so leave it where it is. Hotjar also asks you not to delete your Hotjar account after the move.
02
Export what you want to keep
Your Hotjar recordings and heatmaps stay in Hotjar and do not move to Contentsquare. Export anything you need before the read-only period ends.
03
Add our snippet beside it
Paste one script tag next to the Hotjar code. Pageviews and sessions start arriving on the next request.
04
Rebuild your funnels as goals
Here each funnel step is a goal, built from a page or an event you send. A click you used as a Hotjar step becomes an event, one call each.
FAQ
Switching from Hotjar.
What people ask before they switch.
Can I still sign up for Hotjar?
No. As of October 2026, Hotjar’s site says it is no longer possible to create a new Hotjar account. New users are sent to Contentsquare, which has a free plan.
What happens to my Hotjar account and data?
Hotjar is moving accounts to Contentsquare in phases, starting from 26 August 2026. Each account gets an email that opens 30 days with both tools running. Unless the account owner opts out by the date in that email, the account then moves to the Contentsquare Growth plan. If the owner opts out, Hotjar carries on as before.
After the move, Hotjar stops collecting data and stays read-only for 12 months. The Hotjar account and its data are then deleted. Recordings and heatmaps do not move to Contentsquare, so export what you want to keep. Your email has the exact dates for your account.
Does Spreelytics have heatmaps or session replay?
Session replay, yes, on the Growth plan. A recorded visit plays back with its page views, clicks and events listed beside it, and anything typed into a form is masked. Heatmaps, no. If heatmaps are what you used Hotjar for, Contentsquare is the closer match.
Can I run a heatmap or replay tool beside Spreelytics?
Yes. Ours is one script tag, and you can add it next to theirs. Some teams add one for heatmaps, which we do not draw, or for replays while they are on our Free plan. Microsoft Clarity is one free option.
